Practicalities and analysis of using PTP over 5G systems with dedicated time synchronization support for media production

25th April 2022

During NAB Show 2022 in Las Vegas, US, the 5G RECORDS team presented a conference paper titled “Practicalities and analysis of using PTP over 5G systems with dedicated time synchronization support for media production” at two forums: the NAB BEIT Conference and at the IP Showcase Presentation Theater.

The paper is the result of research performed within the 5G RECORDS project in the Ericsson lab facility in Aachen by the teams of EBU, Ericsson in close collaboration with NVIDIA. It explores and demonstrates the latest developments in time synchronization mechanisms over 5G, the use of IEEE 1588 standard and the Precision Time Protocol over 5G networks with dedicated time assistance services.

The Broadcast Engineering & IT Conference (BEITC) (https://nabshow.com/2022/conference/broadcast-engineering-it-conference/), part of the CONNECT track in the NAB Show Conference, is a renowned program designed for broadcast engineers and technicians, media technology managers, contract engineers, broadcast equipment manufacturers, distributors, engineering consultants, and R&D engineers.

The IP Showcase (http://www.ipshowcase.org/theater-schedule-nab-show-2022/) is sponsored by AES, AIMS, AMWA, EBU, SMPTE, and VSF. It is committed to educating attendees at major industry events on the business and creative potential of IP media solutions. The ongoing focus is on market requirements as media operations move toward all-IP connectivity and content delivery to multiscreen platforms.
